The NCCES operates a modern, distributed computing environment for the use of its faculty and staff in support of the organization's mission. Users of NCCES computing systems are expected to abide by the following policies, which are intended to preserve the performance and utility of the systems, and to ensure NCCES access to the NSFNET.
Account eligibility: NCCES faculty, emeritus faculty, and staff are eligible for accounts. Other state agencies working on educational and related projects may be allowed to use University computing resources if approved for accounts by Extension administration.
Appropriate Uses of NCCES Computing Systems:
Any activity directly related to accomplishing the organization's mission.
Uses for maintaining professional contact and career development.
Reasonable use for private or personal purposes.
Inappropriate Uses of NCCES Computing Systems:
The use of your personal account by any other individual.
The illegal transmission of copyrighted materials.
The use of electronic mail and other communication facilities to harass, offend, or annoy other users of the system.
Attempts to circumvent system security, passwords, or in any way gain unauthorized access to local or network resources.
The selling of items for individuals and the solicitation of funds.
Violations of the "NSFNET Backbone Services Acceptable Use Policy."

Extension personnel involved in the development of computer software should familiarize themselves with the "Policies and Guidelines on the Ownership and Distribution of Extension Computer Software. (See Appendix D.) Software development is a long and often expensive process, and authors are advised to consult with Extension Technology Services prior to beginning any software coding effort.
